Lynn Swenson has been a member of Local 381 since 1977 when He was hired as a fabricator at Vandenberg Air Force Base. When the Union walked out on strike in 1989, he distinguished himself as an active member and showed interest in the affairs of the Local. He served as Chief Steward until 1998, at which time he was terminated for his union activities. Through the arbitration process, he returned to work shortly thereafter. In 1994 Lynn was elected to the office of Vice-President on the Teamsters Local 381 Executive Board. In 1996 he was elected to the position of President, then re-elected twice to that same office. In 2001 he was elected to be an alternate delegate to the Teamsters International Convention. Lynn served as President until May of 2003, when the Executive Board appointed him to fill the vacated position of Secretary-Treasurer. Lynn graduated from North Torrance High School and attended Allan Hancock college while working on his Associates of Science Degree; supplementing this education with courses on Labor Law, Management Principles, Human Relations, and Communications Skills. As Secretary-Treasurer Lynn has emphasized that "the
members come first". Lynn feels that members should see their
Business Agent on a regular basis, and receive prompt, professional
service. Lynn always strives to provide good open lines of communication
to all members. His policy is that Business Agents, and the office
staff exist because members need their services, and unionism is the
way to help them. Lynn's background and experience make him well qualified to effectively represent his members in the following service areas:
