In 1991 Bill Marshal was a Teamster Union steward at the TPQ 18 Radar sight. The Star Wars movie series was popular and society was adopting many terms from that series. Bill Marshall was the first to apply ?The Dark Side? to union members leaving the union for non-union positions. Since that time this term has spread among many union members and non-union employees, on and off Vandenberg. It has become common among supervisors and corporate executives. We can clearly give Bill Marshal (pictured above) the credit for being the first to apply this term in a new, but appropriate fashion. Bill went to the ?Dark Side? on April 1, 1998 (April Fools Day).
